During the Cairo Peace Summit, which commenced on Saturday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized that security and peace can be achieved through the implementation of a two-state solution and the termination of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
The summit, attended by a wide range of regional and international leaders, aimed to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip. Abbas stated that “the unarmed Palestinian people face brutal aggression that violates international humanitarian law.”
He further added, “We have called for an end to this brutal aggression from day one, but the Israeli occupation government has not heeded our calls to halt the violence.”
President Abbas pointed out that the cycle of violence continues periodically due to the absence of justice and neglect of Palestinian rights.
He called upon the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibility in protecting the Palestinian people and granting full membership to the State of Palestine, urging the rest of the world to recognize it.
The Cairo Peace Summit seeks common efforts to alleviate the current conflict between the Israeli and Palestinian sides, emphasizing the protection of civilians in the region. It also focuses on the opening of safe passages and the facilitation of humanitarian aid delivery.
