Poland has unveiled its plan to station 10,000 soldiers along its border with Belarus in response to rising concerns over the presence of Russian-linked mercenaries in Belarus and unauthorized border crossings by migrants. Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced this move on Thursday.
In a separate development, the Polish military is conducting a search for a lost missile fuse near the Belarusian border. However, the military assured that there is no immediate threat as the fuse has safety mechanisms in place.
The fuse went missing during security-related activities that involved specialized equipment.
The decision to deploy additional troops comes after a recent announcement that Poland would send 2,000 extra troops to the border within the next two weeks, effectively doubling the military presence in the area.
The reinforcement of troops aims to support the efforts of police and Border Guard officers already stationed along the border.
