The Canadian police reported on Wednesday that they had deployed 100 officers to deal with around 250 pro-Palestinian protesters who surrounded a restaurant in Vancouver where Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was having dinner on Tuesday evening.
In a statement, the Vancouver Police said, “Vancouver Police deployed nearly 100 officers on Tuesday night to disperse a protest outside a restaurant in the Chinatown neighborhood, where the Prime Minister was dining.”
The statement added that the police assisted in controlling and dispersing the crowd, escorting the Prime Minister out of the restaurant.
According to police spokesperson Mohamed Hussein, via email that A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trudeau called for an end to the killing of women, children, and babies in Gaza, marking his strongest criticism of Israel since the outbreak of the conflict with Hamas last month.
Trudeau has faced pressure from pro-Palestinian supporters to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The incident at the restaurant highlighted the intensity of the emotions surrounding the issue.
