Qatar stressed on Tuesday the need for there to be a clear position from both sides of the conflict in Gaza in order to reach an agreement on a ceasefire in the Strip.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari said, “There must be a clear position on Israel and Hamas in order to reach an agreement regarding the war in Gaza.”
Al-Ansari added in his weekly press conference, “We have not yet seen a very clear position from the Israeli government regarding the principles set by Biden,” noting that Doha is “waiting for concrete answers.”
He explained that Qatar is waiting for a clear Israeli position representing the entire government in response to the US proposal regarding Gaza.
He stressed that the US proposal regarding Gaza should immediately end the long suffering of all Gazans and Israeli hostages.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman indicated that communication are continuing with the two parties in the Gaza negotiations.
On Friday, Biden presented a 3-stage “road map” that he said was Israeli, in order to reach a ceasefire during which hostages held in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons would be released.
Biden said that the first phase, according to the proposed agreement, includes a truce and the return of some of the hostages that Hamas is still holding, after which the two sides will negotiate a cessation of attacks for an indefinite period in the second phase, in which the remaining hostages will be released alive.
