Real Madrid, the renowned Spanish football team, announced that their forward Vinicius Junior will be sidelined due to a hamstring muscle and tendon injury.
This news adds to the club’s challenges this season, which has seen a series of long-term injuries to key players.
The player, aged 23, was forced to leave the field during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier match against Colombia last Thursday, which Brazil lost 2-1.
Vinicius “has been diagnosed with a tear in his left femoral bicep which is affecting the tendon in his hamstring. His recovery will be monitored,” the club said.
After returning to his club, he underwent further medical tests. Real Madrid released a statement confirming the muscle tear in the tendon of his left leg and mentioned that he would be re-evaluated.
On the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, Vinicius expressed optimism, stating, “I will come back stronger.” It is reported by various media outlets that the Brazilian forward might be out of action for approximately 10 weeks.
The injury occurred 27 minutes into the match when Brazil was ahead by 1-0, only to be defeated in the second half with two goals from Luis Diaz. Vinicius believes the injury is a recurrence, mentioning he felt pain in the back of his thigh.
Previously, Vinicius was absent for a month due to a right thigh injury sustained during a Spanish League match in late August. This injury had kept him from participating in Brazil’s initial two South American qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru in September.
