A recent US intelligence report revealed that the United States has spent nearly $1 billion so far on military strikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
The United States, alongside Britain, has been conducting strikes against the Houthis for months. These operations aim to halt the Iranian-linked group’s attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea using missiles and drones.
The Houthis claim their attacks target ships bound for or connected to Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza, which has been under Israeli assault for over eight months.
According to a report cited by the American news site Axios, “The US Navy has so far spent $1 billion on munitions to counter ballistic missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, and armed drones in the region.”
Benyamin Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, stated that “despite the failure or interception of many Houthi attacks, the group’s stockpiles do not seem to be running low, even with ongoing US and British strikes against them.”
So far, US and allied strikes have failed to stop the attacks in the Red Sea, according to Axios.
