In a strong rebuke to Israel’s recent military actions, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has condemned the airstrikes on Damascus International Airport.
This statement from Moscow underscores the growing concern over violations of Syrian sovereignty and the escalation of regional tensions.
Zakharova emphasized Russia’s stance on the matter, characterizing the Israeli offensive as a blatant infringement of international law and a direct threat to civilian infrastructure in Syria.
“Such reckless actions jeopardize innocent lives,” Zakharova asserted, calling for an immediate cessation of these attacks.
This incident marks a significant upsurge in the already volatile Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with potentially severe repercussions for regional stability.
The airstrikes on November 26 not only targeted the airport’s runways but also led to widespread disturbances in the Damascus suburbs of Mezzeh and Mazzamieh.
The repercussions of this assault were felt immediately, as regular flight operations were rerouted to Aleppo and Latakia airports.
SANA, Syria’s state news agency, reported that the Israeli military launched the attack from the Golan Heights at 16:50 local time, resulting in the airport’s closure.
Notably, the Syrian air defenses claimed to have intercepted most of the incoming missiles.
This development comes amid heightened concerns about the impact of such military actions on the broader Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape.
The incident has drawn international attention and calls for restraint to prevent further escalation in an already tense region.
