A Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, announced on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to Turkey will focus on economic and trade relations between the two countries.
Peskov told reporters in Moscow that Turkey is an important trade and economic partner for Russia.
In response to a question about the establishment of a Russian gas hub in Turkey and the possibility of establishing a joint bank between the two countries, Peskov said that “all these issues will be on the agenda.”
Russian President Putin is expected to visit Turkey later this month, according to a previous statement by Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov.
In October 2022, Russian President Putin proposed the idea of creating a gas hub in Turkey, which could redirect the lost transit volume via the Nord Stream pipeline.
The Turkish authorities have confirmed that the country’s infrastructure is almost ready for the implementation of the gas hub project, but some legal amendments need to be made.
