Former Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, affirmed that Russian military capabilities have surpassed their Western counterparts, as demonstrated by the results of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. He also indicated that Russia is ready to cooperate with Europeans “if they wish.”
In an interview with “Sputnik,” Zasypkin commented that “European leaders are responsible for the deterioration of both the European economy and relations with Russia, as they are following the United States’ lead. Therefore, Russia needs to pursue a strategic approach based on cooperation with other, primarily Asian, parties.”
He continued, stating that “it is in the hands of the Europeans. If there is a desire to change their current approach, that’s good, but it seems they continue to entirely follow the American line.”
Zasypkin, who held European leaders responsible for involvement in the Ukrainian war, stressed that Ukraine should not rely on Western military aid. He believed that “Ukraine is incapable of engaging in battles without military assistance, and its economy is devastated, unable to function without Western funding.”
He expressed optimism about developments on the Ukrainian front, confirming that Russian military capabilities have exceeded their Ukrainian counterparts.
He further elaborated, saying that “a new economic and financial system should govern the world, and this is the essence of Russia’s program.” He suggested that national currencies should gradually replace the dollar.
Turning to the Lebanese situation, the Russian ambassador emphasized that Russia “does not support one candidate over another.” He believed that “there should be an agreement among the major Lebanese parties.” He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance of power among political and social forces in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for political skill.
Regarding the Syrian refugee issue, he affirmed that Russia is ready to provide assistance, both moral and humanitarian, and to work diligently in this area. Russia has coordinated primarily with the Syrian government and also with the Lebanese side in this regard, noting that “this exists but must only be activated to achieve its tangible objectives.”
