The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the recent United Nations Security Council Resolution on Saturday, advocating for urgent steps to ensure the immediate, extensive, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The resolution also seeks to create the necessary conditions for a sustained ceasefire.
In its statement, the Saudi Ministry expressed hope that this resolution represents a step in the right direction towards achieving a comprehensive halt to military operations and safeguarding civilians in Gaza.
The Ministry urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and to immediately halt systematic violations by the Israeli occupation authorities against unarmed civilians, including killings and forced displacements, which violate international law and humanitarian principles.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on Friday, establishing a UN mechanism to expedite humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Thirteen countries supported the UAE-proposed resolution, while the United States and Russia abstained from voting. No member of the council voted against the resolution, allowing its passage.
The Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have been ongoing for 11 weeks, involving bombardment and ground incursions.
These operations have resulted in nearly 20,000 deaths, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, with thousands more believed to be under the rubble.
The conflict has displaced most of the 2.3 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, leading to “catastrophic” humanitarian conditions, as described by the United Nations.
While the initial phase of the war involved intense air, land, and naval strikes, the second phase saw a widespread land invasion with tanks.
The Israeli military is now preparing for the “third phase” of the war in Gaza in the coming weeks, indicating targeted combat operations.
