Saudi Arabia welcomed the United Nations’ announcement of the completion of the withdrawal of 1.14 million barrels of crude oil from the floating tank “Safer” off the coast of Yemen.
A statement from its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday appreciated the efforts of António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and his team from the organization, who have mobilized all efforts to address the “Safer” issue. The Kingdom expressed its gratitude for the generous financial support from donor countries for their monetary grants during the fundraising campaign to mitigate the tanker’s threat.
Saudi Arabia was among the first donor nations, providing financial grants through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, as part of its efforts in collaboration with the international community to solve the tanker issue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also lauded the support provided by the “Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen” leadership, facilitating the operational plan until the successful and proficient emptying of “Safer”.
