Representing 70 nations, Abdulmohsen bin Khthaila, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, delivered a joint statement during the 54th session of the Human Rights Council.
The statement warmly embraced the initiative proposed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to establish a Global Water Organization.
This initiative comes under the directives of Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, aiming to enhance the exchange of technical experiences, foster innovation, and promote research and development in the field of water and water resource management.
The statement drew attention to the pressing global water crisis and the ever-growing international demand for water resources to cater to human, economic, and environmental needs.
It highlighted the numerous resolutions adopted by UN member states to intensify efforts aimed at sustainable development of water resources, emphasizing the essential role of water in achieving sustainable development goals and other related objectives in social, environmental, and economic realms.
Ambassador bin Khthaila commended the High Commissioner for Human Rights for advocating adaptability and capacity-building to confront water scarcity challenges. For its part, the office of the High Commissioner urged taking necessary measures to ensure that individuals have access to safe drinking water.
This can be achieved by coordinating actions among various stakeholders related to water matters and enhancing communication at all levels for more effective implementation.
