In a recent announcement, the President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, confirmed that the 2034 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
The disclosure came on Tuesday, following the closure of the application period on the same day.
Earlier this month, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation submitted its bid to host the 2034 edition, with FIFA officially closing the application process on Tuesday, 31st October, with no other submissions made.
Infantino shared the news on his Instagram account, stating that the World Cup on Earth will be organized in Canada, Mexico, and the United States in 2026 in North America, while Morocco will host in Africa, and Portugal and Spain in Europe for the 2030 edition, with three celebratory matches taking place in South America in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
He added that in 2034, the tournament will move to Asia, specifically in Saudi Arabia. We are talking, noting that about 10 countries across five continents hosting three editions of the World Cup, making football a truly global game.”
He continued by acknowledging the unanimous approval of the bidding processes by the FIFA council, representing the six continental federations, following constructive discussions and intensive consultations.
Infantino expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in this decision.
