The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to become the focal point of the global petroleum industry in 2026 as they prepare to host the renowned 25th World Petroleum Conference. The Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman, recently formalized this commitment by signing a memorandum of understanding with Pedro Miras, the president of the World Petroleum Council.
This significant decision to have Riyadh as the hosting city for the conference and its subsequent exhibition was finalized at the Youth Conference in Almaty, Kazakhstan, orchestrated by the World Petroleum Council in the previous October.
Garnering substantial international support for its bid, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy was instrumental in spearheading the nomination process. With a history dating back to 1933, the World Petroleum Conference is a triennial global gathering. It convenes nations and international organizations to advance collaborations within the energy domain and tackle the sector’s paramount challenges.
Drawing attention from specialists, media, and the broader public, these events amplify global discourse on energy matters. As the conference’s backbone, the World Petroleum Council ensures a balanced arena for global stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the oil and gas sector. Central to its mission is the promotion of technological advancements, sustainable petroleum resource management, and facilitating technology exchanges on a global scale.
Notably, as of now, Saudi Arabia, through its Ministry of Energy, is marking its presence at the 24th World Petroleum Conference, underway in Calgary, Canada.
