The spokesperson for the Japanese government announced on Monday that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has postponed his scheduled visit to Japan this week due to his father, King Salman’s “health condition.”
The Saudi Royal Court announced on Sunday that medical tests conducted on King Salman bin Abdulaziz showed he is suffering from a lung infection, with doctors preparing an antibiotic treatment plan for him. The royal medical team has advised these tests to better understand the King’s current health condition.
Japanese government spokesperson Yoshimasa Hayashi stated in a regular press conference that bin Salman’s visit, originally planned from Monday to Thursday, “will be rescheduled between the two countries.”
The purpose of this first trip by the Saudi Crown Prince to Japan since 2019 was aimed at providing Riyadh and Tokyo with an opportunity to enhance their significant economic relations, particularly in the energy sector.
The evaluations was reported to take place within the royal clinics at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah. King Salman, aged 88, previously visited the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah for a routine checkup in April, departing the hospital on the same day, according to earlier SPA reports.
Since ascending to the throne in 2015, King Salman has been overseeing the affairs of Saudi Arabia, which is not only the custodian of the holiest sites in Islam but also the largest oil exporter in the world.
