An aid ship, carrying 200 tonnes of food, reached the coast of Gaza on Friday, launching a pilot project aimed at establishing a sea route to provide essential supplies to Palestinians confronting famine in the enclave.
The collaborative effort between aid organization Open Arms and US charity World Central Kitchen facilitated the delivery of crucial aid. This shipment, orchestrated by the UAE in coordination with the US, EU, UK, and Cyprus, served as a trial for the newly established maritime corridor.
Confirming the successful arrival of the ship, the UAE announced that the aid was transported from Larnaca Port in Cyprus to Gaza, in collaboration with World Central Kitchen and the Republic of Cyprus.
The Israeli army verified the delivery of aid to northern Gaza, noting that a cargo barge deployed from the aid ship was transported to a newly constructed jetty, designated as the unloading point.
“The humanitarian cargo, comprising 130 pallets of supplies and 115 tonnes of food and water, was transferred to 12 World Central Kitchen trucks for distribution in northern Gaza,” stated the army, emphasizing that the aid underwent thorough security inspection prior to dissemination.
Furthermore, the Israeli army affirmed that the delivery of humanitarian aid adhered to the maritime blockade protocols, underscoring the comprehensive security measures implemented throughout the process.
