Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Head, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, affirmed on Saturday that the “Battle of Dignity will continue until the rebellion and its supporters are completely defeated.”
During his visits to military units, al-Burhan addressed officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers of the Third Infantry Division in Shendi, stating that “the armed forces will not lay down their weapons until the rebels are eliminated.”
Al-Burhan urged for reason and withdrawal from the Gezira and Khartoum states, adding, “As long as you (Rapid Support Forces) kill, loot, and steal, there is no room for dialogue with you until the battle is over.”
The Sudanese army announced its first significant advance in the war that started ten months ago, regaining control over parts of Omdurman from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The army declared late on Friday that it successfully connected its two main bases in the city, a development celebrated by both soldiers and locals.
However, the RSF denied any military progress by the army, with their media office stating, “The army has turned to propaganda as it faces defeat.”
Residents of Omdurman, Khartoum, and other cities report that the RSF have forced them out of their homes, looted their properties, and committed rapes.
The United States has accused the forces of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing in West Darfur state.
The army, which has conducted a broad campaign of airstrikes, also faces accusations of war crimes. Both the army and the RSF deny these allegations.
