Abdelfattah Al-Burhan, the head of the Sovereignty Council and commander of the Sudanese army, emphasized on Tuesday that any external solution to the ongoing conflict in the country “will not endure,” adding that no party can impose any measures on Sudan.
Burhan made these remarks in a recorded speech before officers and officers of the 11th Infantry Division of the Sudanese army in the city of Khashm Al-Girba in the eastern part of the country, which was posted on the official Facebook page of the armed forces.
He stated, “Any external solution for Sudan will not persist and will not endure.” Furthermore, Burhan clarified that the Sudanese Sovereignty Council does not engage in talks with any mediators, whether in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, or in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
He also considered that the Organization for Development “Igad” (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) is “not concerned with Sudanese affairs.”
In reference to the initiative of the Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces “Taqadum,” led by former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk, to resolve the crisis in the country, Burhan suggested that “Taqadum” and Hamdouk should come to Sudan and engage in dialogue with political forces inside the country rather than engaging with external parties.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Coordination announced that a delegation led by Hamdouk would head to Juba on Wednesday in response to an invitation from South Sudan as part of the external tours program of the Coordination to rally and integrate international and regional efforts to support a peaceful solution to end the war in Sudan and address the catastrophic humanitarian situation.
Earlier this month, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the suspension of Sudan’s membership in the “Igad” organization. The ministry attributed this decision to the organization’s alleged disregard for Sudan’s official communication regarding the suspension of its engagement and dealings with “Igad” on any matters related to the current situation in the country.
