The leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) expressed full support and commitment to the ongoing talks in Jeddah to end the fighting in Sudan.
The United States and Saudi Arabia called on the Sudanese army and the RSF to resume talks on Sunday, urging both sides to commit to a ceasefire in order to protect civilians signed.
On his part, the RSF leader spoke with the Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan to welcome the call for the resumption of the indirect talks.
“I assured His Highness The Prince of our support for the Jeddah process and our full commitment to the Declaration on the Protection of Civilians and the continuation of facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of our people,” Mohamed Hamdan said.
Furthermore, the RSF leader highlighted that the phone call with the Saudi minister provided an opportunity to exchange views on the latest developments in Sudan.
He added that both parties stressed the need to coordinate joint efforts to stabilize the country.
In late May, the Sudanese military unilaterally suspended its involvement in the Jeddah process, demanding the removal of paramilitary forces from civilian areas. This was in response to ongoing grievances from civilians about the RSF seizing their homes and stealing their possessions, including cars.
The army further emphasized that the RSF persistently occupied public buildings, hindering the resumption of crucial services.
