Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Prince Harry for what he described as an “unforgivable betrayal” of the late Queen Elizabeth II and criticized the way Joe Biden’s administration handled the Duke of Sussex’s visa application, following his admission of drug use.
Trump told the “Sunday Express” newspaper, “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen, which is unforgivable. I think they were very generous to him after what he did.”
The Duke of Sussex, aged 38, admitted to using cocaine, smoking cannabis, and consuming hallucinogens in his memoir titled “Spare.”
It remains unclear whether Harry disclosed details of his drug use in his visa application. John Pardo, representing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, stated in court that Harry’s book was not sworn testimony or proof of drug use, adding, “Just because something is said in a book doesn’t make it true.”
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington D.C., filed a lawsuit demanding the release of Prince Harry’s U.S. immigration files.
Last week, Harry mentioned that obtaining U.S. citizenship had crossed his mind but was not a top priority for him at the moment. A ruling from the U.S. District Court judge is expected in the coming weeks.
Applicants for U.S. visas are asked in the Department of Homeland Security’s visa form if they have ever been a drug user or addict. Sources close to Harry indicated that he answered the request honestly.
According to U.S. immigration laws, an individual’s current or past status regarding drug use or criminal activities could render the applicant ineligible for a visa.
