Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, to discuss bilateral relations with the European Union, asset recovery in Europe, and other issues of mutual interest including illegal migration and the ongoing Israeli military action in Gaza. The talks were held on Monday at the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
During the discussions, both ministers affirmed the strong friendship and cooperation between Tunisia and Hungary, which has seen steady growth over recent years, especially with the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries.
The ministers emphasized the need to further exploit available opportunities to elevate the Tunisian-Hungarian partnership to the level of the exceptional relations that exist between the two nations, particularly in economic and investment areas.
At the conclusion of their talks, the ministers presided over the signing ceremony of bilateral agreements in fields such as information technology and communications, digital economy, exchange of university scholarships, and cooperation in the rail transport sector, as announced by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
Minister Szijjártó’s visit to Tunisia, his fourth since his appointment, came at the invitation of his Tunisian counterpart. This visit is part of the ongoing excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries since 1956, intensifying the political consultations that began in 1996. This visit also reciprocates the trip made by the Tunisian Foreign Minister to Budapest in June 2023, where he participated in the fifth session of the joint economic committee and the third Tunisian-Hungarian business forum.
This meeting underscores the robust diplomatic interactions and the shared commitment to bolstering bilateral ties and addressing pressing global issues collaboratively.
