Tunisian President Kais Saied affirmed the depth of the fraternal relations between Tunisia and Nigeria and the existing cooperation between the two countries.
President Saied, during his meeting with the Nigerian Ambassador to his country, Aseer Alwoty, on the occasion of the end of her tenure on Friday, called for intensifying joint efforts to strengthen and diversify these ties.
In turn, the Nigerian Ambassador expressed her deep gratitude and great appreciation to the Tunisian President and all Tunisian authorities for the support she received during her tenure. She also expressed Nigeria’s keenness to continue enhancing relations between the two countries, especially in the economic and trade sectors.
The bilateral relations between Tunisia and Nigeria have been steadily improving, particularly in the areas of trade, energy, culture, youth development, social affairs, and consumer protection. In 2018, the two countries signed six new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to further strengthen these relations. These agreements were announced following a Joint Ministerial Commission meeting and were aimed at renewing the partnership and bolstering the long-standing political and socio-economic ties based on shared principles of friendship, alliance building, and sovereign equality.
Key areas of cooperation highlighted in the agreements include technical cooperation, handicrafts, industrialization and trade, capacity building, diplomatic training, and defense, among others. Both countries have also agreed to cooperate on security matters, particularly addressing the challenges of terrorism and militancy in their respective regions. The goal is to open up markets for investors and business people from both countries, thereby enhancing economic and trade relations.
Additionally, these bilateral relations are not just limited to economic and trade aspects but also extend to cultural exchanges, health, investment promotion, science and technology, information, communication, and media, and political consultations. The strengthening of these relations is seen as beneficial for both nations, offering opportunities for growth and development in various sectors.
