The Tunisian Popular Current has called on the National Lawyers’ Authority to file a case against US President Joe Biden at the International Criminal Court (ICC), alleging his complicity in the crimes committed by Israel. This statement was made by Mohsen Nabti, the spokesperson for the Popular Current, during a protest near the US Embassy in Tunisia in support of the Palestinian cause.
Nabti condemned the actions of Israel in Palestine as unprecedented in the history of human warfare, citing instances of inhumane treatment towards children and patients, and attacks on hospitals and schools. He stressed that the situation in Palestine is a test of humanity itself, as the Palestinian resistance and people are defending not only themselves but universal human values against the US-supported Israeli aggression.
Moreover, Nabti urged the Tunisian people, global citizens, and Arab nations to intervene by expelling or summoning US ambassadors as a form of protest against the situation in Palestine. He called for a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, highlighting the admirable stances taken by several Asian and African countries, and the actions of some Latin American countries in expelling US diplomats.
Representatives of the Coordination for Supporting the Palestinian Cause, including political parties like the Popular Current, civil society organizations, and members of the Palestinian community in Tunisia, gathered near the US Embassy in La Marsa to protest against the Israeli aggression in Gaza and other Palestinian territories. Amid heavy security presence, protesters raised slogans emphasizing the right to resist occupation, the duty to support martyrs, and the need to expel the US ambassador, extending their demonstration to the following day in solidarity with Gaza.
This call for legal action against President Biden marks a significant escalation in international responses to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reflecting a growing trend of seeking accountability through international legal mechanisms.
