A Tunisian man was killed in clashes between residents and African migrants in the southern city of Sfax, a judicial official announced on Tuesday.
A court spokesman revealed that three African migrants were arrested as suspects in the stabbing death of the local man Sfax.
Meanwhile, the city is crowded with thousands of African migrants who plan to set off to Europe on boats from local coastal areas.
Sources mentioned that the killing followed nights of violent clashes in Sfax between residents and migrants. The police fired tear gas to break up the clashes during the past two nights.
This year witnessed a surge in migration across the Mediterranean from Tunisia after a crackdown by Tunis on migrants from sub-Saharan Africa living in the country illegally.
Sfax residents complain about riots and disorderly behavior by migrants, while the migrants affirmed that they are subjected to racist harassment by some residents.
For several months, the coastal city has seen a large influx of migrants from sub-Saharan African countries trickling from Tunisia’s borders with Libya and Algeria.
