On Monday, Tunisian President Kais Saied met with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella to discuss enhancing the historical friendship and cooperation between Tunisia and Italy.
During the meeting, Saied emphasized the shared principles, values, and genuine commitment between the two nations to bolster partnership and collaboration not only in immigration matters but also in various sectors, including alternative and renewable energies, healthcare, water desalination, scientific, cultural, and sports exchange, according to a statement released by the Tunisian Presidency.
He highlighted that the ongoing high-level bilateral meetings reflect the deep bonds between the two peoples and countries and exemplify their mutual aspirations for building a new future, not only for the region but for humanity as a whole.
Furthermore, the Tunisian president expressed his country’s eagerness to materialize and update agreements signed with Italy, affirming Tunisia’s readiness to strengthen trade and investment partnerships with Italy while providing a conducive environment for economic actors to conduct their activities.
The meeting also addressed the issue of irregular migration and the necessity of concerted efforts to address its root causes, as well as to combat human trafficking networks in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
In this context, Saied praised the outcomes of the international conference on development and migration, which he called for organizing, aiming to devise collective and unconventional approaches to combat inhumane migration.
The meeting also touched upon other subjects related to Tunisia’s relations with the European Union and its international partners, along with regional and global matters of mutual interest.
It is worth noting that Kais Saied participated in the international conference on development and migration held in Rome on Sunday, alongside leaders from European, African, and Gulf Arab countries, as well as senior officials from the European Union.
