Elon Musk, Twitter’s owner, declared early on Sunday that the social media platform will transition from its iconic bird logo to an “X” logo. This announcement follows the renaming of Twitter Inc. to X Corp. that took place earlier this year.
In a post-midnight tweet, Musk mentioned that the Twitter brand, along with “all the birds,” will soon be phased out. “We are on the verge of saying farewell to the Twitter brand and, step by step, all the birds,” Musk tweeted.
In a subsequent tweet, Musk suggested that a new “X” logo could be unveiled as early as the next day. He stated, “If a compelling enough X logo is shared tonight, we will roll it out globally tomorrow.”
The billionaire also posted an oscillating image of an “X” without confirming if this would be the new logo for Twitter.
Twitter’s website describes their blue bird logo as “our most identifiable asset,” which is why they have been so defensive about it. The platform’s home button features a birdhouse.
In a move in April, Twitter’s bird logo was momentarily replaced by the Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog logo, which reportedly resulted in an increase of around $4 billion in the meme coin’s market capitalization.
