On Monday, the United Arab Emirates strongly denied accusations by Sudan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris Al-Harith, concerning its role in the Sudanese conflict.
Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that these accusations were baseless and unsupported by evidence, and they contradict the longstanding, brotherly relations between the UAE and Sudan.
Further emphasizing the UAE’s stance, she stressed “The UAE remains committed to supporting a peaceful solution to the conflict in Sudan and will continue to work with all stakeholders to support any process aimed at putting Sudan on a political track towards a lasting settlement and national consensus to form a civilian-led government.”
Nusseibeh also highlighted the UAE’s role in the upcoming Jeddah negotiating platform, scheduled for May, which will include mediators from Cairo. This initiative is part of international efforts to facilitate dialogue among Sudanese factions and stakeholders, aiming to peacefully resolve the ongoing crisis.
The UAE continues to promote diplomatic engagement and constructive participation in international mediation efforts, reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability in Sudan and the broader region.
This declaration highlights the UAE’s dedication to fostering stability and peace in Sudan amidst ongoing tensions, reaffirming its role as a key player in regional diplomacy.
During a recent UN Security Council session, Al-Harith claimed the UAE supported armed aggression in Sudan, including providing military and logistical aid to the Rapid Support Forces and their allies.
The United States confirmed the resumption of the Jeddah negotiating platform in May with the participation of additional mediators, including Abu Dhabi and Cairo.
