On Friday, the British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that two missiles flew over a ship approximately 50 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen.
According to a statement, the captain was informed of the passage of two missiles over the ship and heard two explosions in the distance.
The authority further noted that the ship did not report any damages and that the crew is safe. The vessel is currently heading to the next port, and authorities are investigating the incident.
Houthi rebels have repeatedly launched drones and missiles targeting international commercial shipping in the Gulf of Aden since mid-November, citing solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli military campaigns in Gaza.
These attacks in the Red Sea have disrupted global shipping, forcing companies to undertake longer and more costly voyages around the southern tip of Africa, raising concerns about the widening scope of the Gaza conflict destabilizing the broader Middle East region.
In response to these attacks, the United States and Britain have conducted strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, with Washington redesignating the group as a terrorist organization.
