The UK Ministry of Defence has reiterated its commitment to stopping Houthi attacks, emphasizing the need to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry reported that the warship “Diamond” successfully intercepted a Houthi drone attack in the Red Sea on Saturday.
The statement read that Diamond successfully destroyed a targeted drone, and no injuries were reported among the crew, nor was there any damage to the ship.
It is worth noting that both the United States and the United Kingdom have carried out strikes on Houthi positions more than once this month, aiming to disrupt and weaken the group’s capabilities to threaten navigation in the Red Sea and undermine global trade.
Since November 19th of last year, approximately a month after the eruption of the Israeli war in Gaza on October 7th, the Iran-backed Houthi group has launched dozens of drone and missile attacks on cargo ships under the pretext of supporting the Palestinians.
Furthermore, on December 18th, the United States announced the establishment of a multi-national maritime military alliance named “Guardians of Prosperity” with the aim of countering any attacks that threaten the safety of international maritime navigation.
This alliance has already carried out several strikes on Houthi military sites in Sanaa, Hodeidah, Taiz, Hajjah, and Saada since January 12th, involving participation from several other countries.
