Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky announced ongoing negotiations between Kyiv and Washington aimed at crafting a robust bilateral security agreement.
This deal seeks to significantly enhance the military and financial support the US extends to Ukraine.
According to President Zelensky, these discussions include additional clauses concerning various forms of support that the US could provide over the next decade.
This makes the agreement potentially the strongest security treaty among all similar agreements Ukraine has with other nations.
Zelensky elaborated that a team of Ukrainian experts, in partnership with their American counterparts, is working diligently to formulate a specific and clear bilateral security agreement.
“The ongoing discussions focus on the foundations of our security and our interaction with the agreement’s provisions, which cover the current year and the next decade. This includes military, financial, political support, and joint weapons production,” Zelensky stated.
The Ukrainian leader underscored Kyiv‘s goal to make this agreement with the United States the “strongest” compared to all similar documents Ukraine has signed or is about to sign with other allies.
Ukraine has previously signed comparable agreements with the UK, France, Germany, and Denmark, and reports suggest a similar document will soon be signed with Italy.
On the other hand, Russian officials have repeatedly expressed concerns, accusing the West of provoking Ukraine by supplying weapons and funds and spreading misleading media campaigns against Russia. These actions are viewed by Russia as direct involvement in the conflict.
Moreover, the Russian Ministry of Defense has warned Western countries against supplying arms to Ukraine, threatening to target these supplies on Ukrainian soil.
