Ukraine has asserted that it successfully shot down 14 out of 15 Russian drones launched towards the southern regions of the country overnight.
The Ukrainian Air Force and defense forces reportedly engaged in air combat, resulting in the destruction of the drones in various regions, including Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Khmelnytskyi, as communicated on the Telegram messaging app.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the drones were launched from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov in Russia.
However, there has been no immediate comment from Russia, and Reuters has been unable to independently verify the reported drone attacks.
In a separate series of incidents on Saturday, a person was killed, and seven others were injured when Russian shelling struck the southern region of Kherson.
Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported that a drone attack resulted in the death of a man in the town of Stanislav, while a sustained assault on a residential area left seven individuals wounded.
Furthermore, Russia shelled a power station closer to the front lines in eastern Ukraine, causing injuries to five workers and cutting off electricity to the town of Kurakhovo.
Russian forces, having abandoned positions on the western bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region a year ago, continue to shell areas from new positions on the eastern bank.
