The Ukrainian army announced on Tuesday the successful interception of all drones launched by Russia last night, totalling 12 drones.
Additionally, the Ukrainian army stated that it destroyed Iranian-made drones over the regions of Mykolaiv in the south and Kharkiv in the east.
In contrast, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region in Russia, stated on Tuesday morning that Russian air defence systems intercepted 13 aerial targets as they approached the city of Belgorod, the administrative centre of the region.
Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel, “Russian air defence systems operated over the city of Belgorod and the Belgorod region, intercepting 13 aerial targets as they approached the city.”
The clashes come amid heightened tensions between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides engaging in military manoeuvres and exchanges along the border.
The successful interception by Ukrainian forces and the acknowledgement of air defence activity by Russian authorities add to the escalation of the region’s conflict.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry declared on Monday that its air defence units have successfully intercepted and destroyed two thousand Russian missiles since the commencement of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict more than two years ago.
According to a statement released on the “X” website, the ministry attributed this accomplishment to the extensive efforts undertaken by the air defence forces, utilizing modern air defence systems provided by international allies.
While the ministry did not provide specific details regarding the types of missiles intercepted, it emphasized the effectiveness of its air defence infrastructure in safeguarding Ukrainian territories.
Additionally, the ministry underscored the ongoing need for enhanced air defence capabilities to shield civilians from potential threats, particularly as Russian attacks continue to target civilian infrastructure.
