According to Ukrainian air defense system data, 20 Russian cruise missiles were launched Wednesday morning at Kyiv and the surrounding region.
The missiles were reportedly fired from the Russian strategic missile launcher Tupolev Tu-95 MS, as stated by Ukrainian military sources.
The Ukrainian Air Force also reported the launch of several drones. Other areas in Ukraine, including Kharkiv in the east and Lviv in the west, were also targeted in the attacks.
Ukrainian Army Commander Valeriy Zaluhnyi announced that 44 out of 64 aerial targets, including drones and cruise missiles, had been destroyed. He added that Russia had once again utilized the ballistic missile “Iskander surface-to-surface.”
A series of widespread Russian airstrikes caused extensive damage to some facilities in Ukraine on Tuesday evening.
Global media outlets reported that the air raid sirens were sounded in the capital city, Kyiv, on Wednesday morning. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that 13 people were injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russia’s “terrorist attack” on six areas in the country, announcing retaliatory measures. He also confirmed two fatalities in Kyiv and noted that there may be individuals trapped under the rubble.
Zelensky stated that two people were killed in the capital city of Kyiv on Wednesday due to the Russian missile attack. He wrote on the Telegram app, “More than 10 people were injured in Kyiv. We have learned of the deaths of two people so far. There may be more people trapped under the rubble.”
Klitschko urged citizens to seek shelter for their safety. Additionally, European Union (EU) foreign policy representative Josep Borrell stated that he is seeking protection, as mentioned in a post on the X platform.
