A UN official told the Arab World News Agency that the number of Sudanese in Egypt is continuously increasing, though no specific number was provided.
In an interview conducted during an event for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Egypt, Hanan Hamdan stated that the number of registered refugees in Egypt had reached 640,000. “As we know, the numbers of Sudanese and refugees in general are continuously increasing. The number of refugees registered with the UNHCR in Egypt has reached approximately 650,000, including those of Sudanese nationality,” she added.
Hamdan also highlighted the lack of funding and the increasing number of refugees. “We call on the international community to contribute and offer assistance,” she said.
According to the UN official, the refugee community worldwide is suffering from increasing numbers and a lack of funding, thus she reiterated the call for international support.
According to the United Nations, more than 10 million Sudanese have fled their country since the outbreak of fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in mid-April 2024.
