The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has reported that approximately 62% of homes in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed as a result of the ongoing conflict in the area. In a statement released on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), UNRWA highlighted the dire situation, noting, “The continued warfare has led to the destruction of about 62% of homes in Gaza, with critical infrastructure also coming under attack, including United Nations buildings that shelter displaced families.”
UNRWA further pointed out that over 75% of Gaza’s population has been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and shelter elsewhere, including UNRWA’s own shelter facilities. Many of these individuals have had to move multiple times due to the war’s progression.
This alarming level of destruction and displacement underscores the severe impact of the conflict on the civilian population of Gaza, with basic infrastructure and housing severely compromised. The statement from UNRWA brings to light the urgent need for international attention and assistance to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
