The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced on Sunday evening that ongoing Israeli aggression in Rafah has led to the displacement of thousands of families.
UNRWA reported that all 36 of its shelters in Rafah are now empty due to continuous bombing and aggression by Israeli occupation forces.
As a result, the agency has suspended its health and essential services in Rafah, coinciding with the persistent Israeli attacks on the area.
According to UNRWA, over one million people have been forced to flee Rafah in search of safety, which remains elusive due to the ongoing Israeli aggression, numerous massacres, and thousands of casualties.
Earlier, the Arab Observatory for Human Rights warned against the Israeli occupation’s attempts to classify UNRWA as a “terrorist organization,” criminalize its activities, and revoke the immunity of its staff.
The Observatory emphasized that these attempts violate all international conventions and human rights standards and constitute a new war crime against the Palestinian people.
The Arab Observatory for Human Rights called on international human rights organizations to intensify their efforts to prevent this crime, which threatens the lives of nearly 6.4 million Palestinian refugees, including two million in the Gaza Strip who have been subjected to aggression and genocide for more than seven continuous months.
The Observatory stressed the need for these organizations to fulfill their responsibilities to protect relief organizations and their employees, especially UNRWA, due to its critical importance to the Palestinian people.
On Thursday, Israeli occupation authorities demanded that UNRWA vacate its headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem within 30 days, citing “unauthorized use of land belonging to the Israel Lands Authority.”
