The members of the United Nations Security Council have renewed their commitment to the Libyan-led and UN-facilitated political process, stressing the importance of achieving tangible progress on the security, economic, and political tracks.
In a statement, the Council members said they “reaffirm their commitment to an inclusive Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process facilitated by the United Nations, and express their support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily to convene the 5+5 meeting.”
They called on “key stakeholders to engage fully with Bathily in good faith and without preconditions.”
The Council members stressed “the importance of achieving tangible progress on the security, economic, and political tracks,” and emphasized that “individuals or entities that threaten or undermine the peace, stability or security of Libya or obstruct the holding of elections will be subject to UN Security Council sanctions.”
They welcomed the efforts of “the Libyan Presidential Council to launch the national reconciliation process with the support of the African Union,” and called on “all foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries to withdraw from Libya without delay.”
