US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces have destroyed eight targets attributed to the pro-Iranian Yemeni Houthi group in the Red Sea and Yemen.
CENTCOM reported this in a statement, while Yemeni broadcaster Al Masirah, owned by the Houthi group and based in Beirut, announced that US and British forces had “launched five air strikes on the Ras Issa area, in the Salif district,” located in Hodeidah governorate, Yemen.
CENTCOM confirmed on July 12 that the supercarrier USS Theodore Roosevelt has arrived in the 5th Fleet area of operations, taking over from the carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which left the Red Sea area in late June after approximately six months in the region.
The Roosevelt is transferring from the Indo-Pacific region, where it had been operating since deployment at the beginning of 2024.
Houthi rebels have issued several threats against the supercarrier. Spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the carrier would be a target once within range. Days ago, he posted a cryptic message on social media saying, “three days.” The Houthis claimed to have targeted the Eisenhower several times during its deployment in the Red Sea, but these claims were refuted by multiple sources and photos showing the Eisenhower in good condition when it returned to the Mediterranean before heading back to its base in Virginia.
