US forces initiated two strikes against a mobile anti-ship cruise missile and a mobile unmanned surface vessel (USV) launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, as confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in a statement on Saturday.
The strikes were prompted by the launch of four anti-ship ballistic missiles from Houthi-held territories over the Red Sea toward the commercial ship MT Pollux between Friday at 1:15 pm local time and 1 am on Saturday.
CENTCOM noted that there were no reported injuries or damage to the MT Pollux or any other vessels in the area.
The strikes were conducted as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard commercial shipping and maintain maritime security in the region.
The heightened tensions resulting from the protracted conflict in Yemen have led to sporadic incidents involving Houthi missile attacks, prompting swift international responses to ensure the safety of maritime traffic in the strategic waters near Yemen.
