In a coordinated effort, the United States and the United Kingdom launched a series of aerial attacks targeting Yemen’s Hodeidah province on the Red Sea coast. The strikes specifically focused on the Ras Issa area in the al-Salif directorate, northwest of Hodeidah. Four airstrikes hit this location, while two others targeted the Hodeidah Airport and the al-Jabana area northwest of the province.
US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller asserted that Washington remains committed to holding the Houthi rebels accountable for their recent assault on international shipping. The strikes come in response to the deadly attack that occurred on Wednesday.
The joint US-UK response follows a series of Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea since November. The Houthi militia claims these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians, particularly during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The international coalition, led by the US and the UK, views these attacks as a threat and has initiated retaliatory measures against the Houthis.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, in a statement on social media, declared that the attacks will persist until the perceived aggression ends and the blockade on the Gaza Strip is lifted. The situation remains tense as the conflict between the coalition forces and the Houthi rebels continues to escalate.
