According to the Financial Times, US officials have revealed that the United States has requested China to encourage Tehran to rein in the Houthi rebels who are attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea.
However, there has been no indication of assistance from Beijing.
The report stated that the United States has raised this issue multiple times with senior Chinese officials over the past three months.
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that US and British forces carried out a new round of airstrikes in Yemen on Monday, targeting an underground storage site belonging to the Houthi rebels, along with missile capabilities and other surveillance assets they use to attack shipping in the Red Sea.
The Houthi rebels, who control densely populated areas in Yemen, claim to carry out these attacks in solidarity with the Palestinians against Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
The Houthi attacks have disrupted global shipping and raised concerns about worldwide inflation and the potential for the repercussions of the Israel-Hamas conflict to destabilize the Middle East.
In response to these attacks, US and British forces conducted strikes on 8 different sites in Yemen with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, according to a joint statement by the six nations.
