The Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) held a special session today to select and appoint new regional directors for the WHO regions of Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, and Western Pacific.
The session was chaired by Qatar, represented by Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health and Chair of the WHO Executive Board.
The special session took place as part of the 154th session of the WHO Executive Board, currently convened in Geneva.
During the session, Dr. Hanan Belhaj was appointed as the Regional Director for the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, Ms. Saima Wazed as the Regional Director for the WHO Southeast Asia Region, and Dr. Sāya Maung Gyi as the Regional Director for the WHO Western Pacific Region.
Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari extended her congratulations to the newly appointed regional directors of the World Health Organization, wishing them success in their roles for the benefit of the WHO and the regions’ countries.
She also expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the efforts made by the outgoing regional directors during their tenure, which contributed to the development of the organization’s work, and she wished them success in their future responsibilities.
