In a significant development, “X” Platform, formerly known as Twitter, has agreed to negotiate settlement claims with thousands of former employees who alleged they were subjected to financial “misconduct” when their services ended following the acquisition of the renowned American billionaire, Elon Musk.
According to a memo from attorney Shannon Lees Reordan, who represents the laid-off workers, the company has been accused of multiple violations against its employees, including the failure to properly compensate thousands of them for their end-of-service benefits.
The attorney stated that she succeeded in bringing Twitter to the table for discussions on settling the employees’ complaints after ten months of efforts. She also clarified that she represents many employees in lawsuits surpassing 12 cases against Twitter.
In late last year, Elon Musk acquired the popular social media platform in a deal worth $44 billion, leading to a significant reduction in the company’s workforce.
Approximately 2,000 former employees filed complaints against Twitter due to what they claimed was unfair handling of their end-of-service payments.
According to sources cited by Bloomberg, Twitter’s current agreement to negotiate with the laid-off employees comes in response to a court request to seek an amicable resolution. Preliminary negotiations to address the issue are scheduled to begin on the first and second of December this year.
The acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk marked a significant moment in the tech industry, raising questions about the future direction of the social media platform. With a price tag of $44 billion, this deal reshaped the landscape of digital communication.
However, the acquisition didn’t come without its challenges, particularly for the employees of Twitter. The subsequent downsizing led to the departure of a substantial number of workers, many of whom felt that their exit packages were not in line with their years of service and dedication to the company.
Shannon Lees Reordan, the attorney representing the former employees, embarked on a determined legal effort to address these grievances. Her success in bringing Twitter to the negotiating table reflects the significance of these issues and the need for a fair resolution.
The upcoming negotiations scheduled for December will be a critical step in finding an amicable solution to the disputes between Twitter and its former employees. This development highlights the importance of fair treatment and just compensation for workers in the ever-evolving tech industry.
