Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, reiterated the council’s steadfast commitment to the principles outlined in the power transfer declaration. Addressing the nation on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, coinciding with the two-year anniversary of the council’s formation, Al-Alimi highlighted the significant developments witnessed in Yemen since its establishment.
During his address, Al-Alimi emphasized the council’s role as a promising outcome of the comprehensive national consensus stemming from the Riyadh consultations, sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council. He underscored the council’s program and core values, including consensus, partnership, peace-building, and institutional reconstruction and enhancement.
Al-Alimi further discussed the sacrifices made by the council and the government to promote peace and alleviate humanitarian suffering, leading to the roadmap facilitated by the mediation of Saudi Arabia and Oman. He also outlined the necessary reforms and changes implemented within state institutions since the council’s inception, focusing on internal efforts and enhancing the efficiency of the temporary capital, Aden.
Additionally, Al-Alimi addressed economic and financial reforms, diplomatic efforts to garner international support for the Yemeni people, and efforts to rectify misleading narratives regarding Yemen’s just cause. He expressed gratitude to all segments of Yemeni society for their support of the Presidential Leadership Council, including the armed forces, popular resistance, wounded individuals, martyrs’ families, women, youth, media, culture, and intellectual figures.
Al-Alimi commended the role of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition in supporting Yemen’s legitimacy, along with the sacrifices made by its members, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, for the welfare and dignity of Yemen and its people. He also praised the efforts of his fellow members of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in protecting the broad national alliance, maintaining its momentum, and ensuring its voice is heard globally.
